As a believer I have come to realize that humility is the key aspect of success. “Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and He will lift you up.” James 4:10 When you show humility in life, you put others first, above your own wants and desires.
During the last supper Christ showed humility by taking the lowest and dirtiest job. He washed the disciples feet. They had been walking all day in sandals, there was a bit of dirt which became mud. This was not taking off socks and shoes to discover clean feet. Christ got his hands dirty. We are called to follow after Christ.
When I practice humility in personal finance I put my families needs in front of the present toy that “I have to have.”
In the book, “The Richest Man in Babylon” it talks about paying yourself first. At the first of the month put money into your investing, before any other bills. But for the Christian it is different. We need to “Pay God First” Malachi 3:10 says,
“Bring all the tithes into the storehouse,
That there may be food in My house,
And try Me now in this,”
Says the Lord of hosts,
“If I will not open for you the windows of heaven
And pour out for you such blessing
That there will not be room enough to receive it.”
We put God first by paying tithe. Abraham first practiced paying time by giving 10 percent of his income to God. Paying tithe shows humility. It shows that God is number one in your life. You will be amazed to find that when you give God 10% , the 90% that you have left will go farther than your 100% ever did. It’s one of the few passages that said. Test me. God is calling on us to test him, to try him out.
And this is the question for you. Will you put God to the test?
